How To Treat Kidney DiseaseThe kidneys are the body’s main filters to remove excess fluids and waste from the blood. Your kidneys are two fist-sized organs just under your rib cage, with one on each side of your spine. In addition to filtering your blood, your kidneys produce hormones that help regulate your blood pressure, make red blood cells, and strengthen your bones.

With kidney disease, your kidneys are damaged and cannot filter blood the way they should. You are at higher risk for kidney disease if you have diabetes or high blood pressure. The faster you learn you have kidney disease, it is very important to take the necessary steps to protect your kidneys from damage which can help to prevent heart disease and improve your health.

If you have a personal or family history of diabetes, high blood pressure, or kidney disease, it’s important to have your kidney function checked regularly. Your doctor may also recommend, checking your kidney function if you smoke, you are obese, have a family history of sickle cell disease, take medications that might affect your kidneys, or if you are older than sixty years.

The most important step you can take to treat your kidney disease is to control your blood pressure because high blood pressure can damage your kidneys. See your doctor to develop ways to keep your blood pressure under control. Your doctor may encourage you to eat heart-healthy and low sodium meals quit smoking, get more exercise, get enough sleep, and take your medication as ordered. These are some of the ways on how to treat your kidney disease.

How your screening is done

Screening is usually done with two simple tests which include a blood test and a urine test. These tests can be used to monitor your kidney health and to determine how treatment is working.

These are good to know

Control your blood pressure. If you have diabetes, keep blood glucose under control. See your doctor to monitor your kidney health. Take medications as they are prescribed. Maintain a healthy diet (consult a dietitian). Make exercise a daily routine. Try to maintain a healthy weight. Get enough sleep (7-8 hours a night). Stop smoking. Try to relieve your stress and depression by using relaxation and other techniques. Stop smoking as cigarette smoking can make your kidney damage worse. Quitting smoking may help you to lower your blood pressure which is good for your kidneys, and can lower your risk of heart disease and stroke.
If you experience kidney failure, treatments include kidney transplant or dialysis. Other kidney problems include acute kidney injury, kidney cysts, kidney stones and kidney infections.

Having kidney stones

If you have kidney stones, you are at higher risk if you have high blood pressure, diabetes, obese, have osteoporosis, or you have a family history of kidney stones.

Kidney stones can be very painful until the pass. They can also cause extreme pain when they are logged or when they are passing out. This can usually take a few minutes to hours or sometimes even days. Kidney stones can cause blood in your urine, nausea or vomiting, fever or chills, cloudy urine. The larger stones can cause bleeding, infections and kidney damage. If a kidney stone is too large to pass by itself, your doctor may have to crush the stone using a special procedure so that the smaller pieces can be passed out in your urine.

How to pass kidney stones much faster

You can help kidney stones to pass quicker by drinking lots of water (9 to 10) glasses of water daily. To make it much easier to drink all this water, it is recommended to drink two glasses with meals, one between meals, one at bedtime, and for people who get stones often, drink one more during the night. By increasing your fluid intake, you can reduce your risk of kidney stones.

What is a kidney infection

Kidney infections occur when bacteria in the bladder travel to the ureters (the tube which connects the kidneys to the bladder). Know you have the infection when you feel pain in your back, side and groin, you have a fever, you vomit, and you feel pain when you pass your urine.

You cannot treat kidney infections by yourself. Know have to see your doctor for treatment to kill the infection and prevent it from spreading. Your doctor may prescribe antibiotics. Try to keep bacteria away from the urethra. Germs from the anal area will get inside the urethra (the tube which carries urine from the body). Always wipe yourself from front to back when you use the bathroom.

Symptoms of kidney infections

If you feel pain below your ribs toward your back, fever, nausea, and vomiting, you have blood in your urine, See your doctor as early as you can. Don’t wait, the longer you take to receive treatment, the worse your condition will get.
